Designworks is happy to announce the beginning of an ongoing renovation project at 440 Galapago St. in Denver CO. This Commercial Italianate style house in the Baker Historic neighborhood of Denver is beginning the long process of restoration and rectification. Built in 1890 it had two additions to the original footprint prior to 1975. The original structure consists of load bearing masonry, sand formed brick in this case. The subsequent additions were of CMU blocks and stick framing, respectively. There was also a Greek Revivalist porch added somewhere along the way that obfuscates the style. The east elevation has been brutalized with the untreated CMU addition, while the 70's era addition to the south side was scabbed on with little to no thought or sensitivity. Below are some current condition pictures. Follow us on social media as we share the progress of the various tasks that will comprise this project.
